I see new fencing up across the road from Puzo’s pasture blocking access to the cabin driveway. Does anyone know if this trail section closed or is it seasonal?

I drove to Montrose this morning and saw a large tree down on the trail between Ultracon and Singer Road (Heart Lake area). From what I saw, the trail is not passable there at the moment. I can’t get to it immediately, but maybe sometime within the next week. If I do, I’ll post it.

3/4 10:30pm

Trail from Pump&Pantry; (montrose) to Fork’s Hill Road (harding’s) is groomed and in great shape.
People will find smooth trails and plenty of snow to ride. There were very few bare spots and most places still had over a foot of snow. enjoy…

Sunday afternoon 2/28:

Ran the Can Am and the Cushman on the railbed from Claverack to P&P.
Spent 2 1/2 hours trying to get the moguls smoothed out. Snow was terrible to work with
but we got 90% of the tracks smooth….

Montrose loop - Feb 20, 2010

Trolley tracks down to pump-n-pantry are in good shape. We ran the full loop from Andre’s up through Gaulf / Olesk, Salt Spring, Franklin Fork, down to Craig’s photo. From Andre’s up through Gaulf / Olesk was decent (good in some spots but very rough/thin snow in others). Leading into and through salt springs was pretty bad. A lot of areas of ZERO snow. Looked like the trail had been plowed to pure dirt with tiny banks of snow bordering it. We were actually all wondering why in the heck we were out riding. Especially the race sled in our group that couldn’t keep it cool enough to ride (the constant stops for him to cool provided even more reason the rest of us were wondering what we were doing out). But the last 1.5 miles of the Salt Spring trail got great as we moved up in elevation and the rest of the loop through Franklin Forks back down to 706 was great.

Watch out on the temp trail at the route 29 crossover at the beginning of the Gaulf / Olesk trail. We really need an arrow on a post there pointing to the left so that riders don’t go off that bank. Even with me leading them to the left and yelling at him, the second rider in the group decided to follow someone else’s tracks right off the drop. The existing tracks show that he definitely isn’t the only one that did/will do it.

All in all… ended up being a great night of riding!

Rode from Tractor Supply to Franklin Hill. from Franklin Hill to Salt Springs, from Salt Springs to South Montrose, from South Montrose to Montrose and from Montrose back to Tractor Supply yesterday. From Tractor Supply to Franklin Hill to Salt Springs, the riding was really nice. The fields were wind blown in places but generally good riding. The wood sections were a little rough, but were snow covered. The rough mountain section out of Salt Springs had very little snow coverage and we found we had stop a couple of times to let the sleds cool down (AC liquid Cooled). Once we were back on the groomed trail, the snow coverage was good and real nice riding and the trail had good coverage. The rest of the ride into South Montrose was very enjoyable with just a few sections with little coverage. The ride from South Montrose into Montrose was the best on the track section, with the wooded section with better coverage than last week end. The track section appeared to have been groomed and in good shape. The ride from Montrose back to Tractor Supply was the best. That section of the trail had been groomed, was smooth and had nice coverage. My compliments to all of the groomers out there, they have done an exscellant job for the little snow that we have had. REMEMBER, WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES USING THE TRAILS, WE RAN ACROSS A SMALL HERD OF DEER, AND THEY SCATTERED IN ALL DIRECTIONS. THIS IS THEIR DOMAIN, AND THEY DESERVE THE SAME RESPECT OUR RIDERS DO!

This trail has coverage but gets bony on the new trail route at the farm. Overall not bad. Farm field has been blown thin but still has coverage.

Trail thru harts and greenwoods is open, very thin and bony. Use extreme caution. All of that rain was a bad thing. Southtown tracks at Greenwoods is a mess. Only groomed the actual tracks. Panned the rest. Thanks, Switchback

Karen and I spent all the day working on trail from Tiffany corners to PJ’s. Signs are up, trail is trimmed. The tracks are not bad, but still thin. We need snow!!! Use extreme caution behinds Hinds Oil, gully near Dave Harts lake, Greenwoods woods trail and tracks off Greenwoods trail. We need a dozer in there next year. Thanks, Switchback

To date, the trail through Harts and Greenwoods is still closed due to lack of snow and concern of fourwheelers. Permission has been granted by these landowners. As soon as we see rideable snow they will get opened up. Thanks, Switchback

This trail has been packed down nicely. (thanks for everyone taking it easy on the snow, THANK YOU). Bony in spots but I would say except-able considering the snow cover it has.

Caution
Their is a couple rocks just behind Arcadia Tree farm in the rough section. One just big enough to punch a hole in the belly pan if your sled sits low enough.
